Ilwaco salmon with the kids

The Crew:

Friday mid day Mark rolled with his son Jacob and Jacobs buddy Austin for Ilwaco to try to catch the afternoon bite. I picked up my son David later in the afternoon as well as Mark's wife Sheryl and rolled down to meet them for a Saturday adventure.

Mark had a couple of buddies join him for the afternoon evening session that was the last day of 2 clipped kings. They managed 1 keeper around 15 pounds and several others released. At least they located some fish that were hanging out in front of the light house off the North jetty in 30-50 feet of water.

Saturday Morning we readied the boat and headed out by daybreak. Decent smooth bar and not quite as flat outside as we had expected but not at all bad either. We had lines in by probably 5:15am and before long we had a fish aboard. We were trolling divers with kingfisher spoons and divers with bait to start out. Lots of shakers and by 8am we had 2 in the boat.

Things quieted down for a good while with only the occasional shaker to show for the efforts. Maybe around 11 I saw some birds working on the horizon and I set a course to explore. As we were nearing the working birds, we hit a double....Both keepers...As we got closer, we hit another double...One of the two we kept. we worked the area for a bit until we found our last fish to round out the 6 fish king limit.

We were able to call in a couple of buddy boats to our new found action zone and they were promptly rewarded.

Jacob and Austin were awesome running the deck. These young men are getting ready to run the deck like pros in the near future. A couple more tutoring sessions and I can take a nap more often...

Mark is always the gracious Captain. The man with the plan! Sometimes I am a doubter...Remind me to bite my tongue and smile more often. Thanks Mark!

Sheryl enjoyed the day watching her son do battle and no doubt was a proud mom.

Little David had a chat with Captain Ralph but rallied like a true sailor. Before long he was eating a sandwich and telling jokes..Gotta love my boy!

We stopped at the South Jetty to find a short window to play with bottom fish. Jacob and Austin pulled in a couple of giant rock fish and a med ling to complete the mission.
We sat at the marina and filleted salmon, then had a nice lunch, and were home by 8 PM. Not the usual Relentless day but a wonderful time indeed.

We only had a few pics but they were good ones in my book:

Relentless rides again:
