Columbia River Spring Chinook, The Finale

I headed back to Cathlamet to meet Pat and Donald to try to find the cure for my Springer fever last Friday after work.  It was a bit busier than the prior weekend but not chaotic by any means.
We rolled a few minutes later than we should have Saturday morning and our prime anchor spot was full up but we still managed to find an acceptable spot. One thing that screwed the pooch for us, as far as getting set, were the boats that were strewn about anchored with no regard to established hog lines. There was a Bayliner that set between two lines Saturday then came back late Sunday morning and anchored less than 50 yards dead off our stern Sunday. The other point is that he totally ignored our attempt to communicate that he might give us a little more room down river.

When you set anchor, don't be this guy.....

Saturday we scraped out a couple of fish on the hook, missed one, and missed another later on the troll. The weather was awesome all in all. Cold and foggy Saturday burning off to very nice later.

The crew consisted of my good buddy Pat who guides out of Craig in the summer, and Donald. Donald's dad runs the Simrad boat that is affiliated with Salt Patrol. Good snacks, great weather, and some decent fishing....

Donald got to catch his first springer that hit a K-15 quickfish...

Later, I got this one with the same plug on it's next rotation into the order.

Aside from the Bayliner, we had pleasant neighbors each day.

Sunday was a bit frustrating early. That Bayliner was directly below us and we didin't touch a fish until late but finally Pat got this one one another K-15: Nice fish that weighed out at 16lbs....

We fished til 5 PM and that was our only action but we were good with a nice fish apiece for our efforts.

Take a look at our plug assortment....Any color you like as long as it's Chartreuse....

Sundays neighbors were very cool. Doug, his son, and his buddy out of Snohomish were on out port side about 40 feet or less. They caught a couple of nice ones and I took some pics of them doing work....

Super cool people and always nice to have good neighbors don't you think?

Sunday after noon we saw a bank fisherman who was being a total freak to a couple of older guys in a boat that had accidentally picked up his bank line while they were trolling. Yelling and swearing at the older guys. What an ass!!! Don't be that guy either....

Thanks to Pat and Donald for great company and a great weekend on the Columbia...

    Next stop....Shrimp and Halibut!
